Post Four Bad Hearts (a ghost-story)
This is the story of Mary,
she lost her husband Isaiah 16 years ago to a heart attack
Today she found out that her own heart is not in great shape,
but she has something that Isaiah didn't have,

she has medicine.

This is also the story of Shady and Little Guy,
Two young street thugs looking for fast money and a quick high.

Today, on the bus,
they will meet..

Tonight is Halloween,
a night of restless souls,
revenge and bitter irony..

such is the tale of....

( A Ghost-Story)

Part One

"Mary, I'm a little worried about your heart
Your blood pressure is 130 over 85
Take this medicine, play it smart
These pills will help keep you alive"

There was a couple more things to discus
That her doctor briefly made mention
As Mary rode home on the bus
She didn't see that she had attracted the attention

Of a couple young boys, with plans on their own
Who thought Mary would be an easy hit
It's times like these that Mary felt all alone
It has been sixteen years since Isaiah's heart quit

The boys were watching the old lady ride
They came up with a plan on what to do
They would follow her home, where she would provide
Them her money and maybe some jewelry too

Tonight was Halloween, and just down the block
Right past where the corner store stood
They knew this dealer who would sell them some rock
His drugs, they knew, were always good

All they had too do was rob this old lady
Then they could spend the rest of the night high
The oldest pulled his hood down, his friends call him Shady
The youngest was known as Little Guy

Shady had a gun, all shiny and glossy
He kept it hidden so not to loose it
Tonight he would show the boys in the posse
That was wasn't afraid to have to use it

Mary looked up and down the aisle
The bus was half full today
A thought occurred to her, it made her smile
"You need to be careful!" Isaiah used to say

If only Isaiah had taken his own advice
He needed the pills she now held in her hand
To have grown old with him would have been nice
It was such a bright future that they had planned

But sixteen years ago he had a heart attack
In their garage, while building a shelf
She saw the doctor today, she had no plans to go back
She has lost all desire to take care of herself...

Part Two

"Vine Street, next stop!" The bus driver yelled
Somehow over all the noise
She stood up, to the overhead bars she held
She got off, followed by a couple boys

They followed the old lady down the street
To apartment number 129
Shady stayed back, trying to be discreet
As Little Guy waited for Shady's sign

The old lady climbed the stairs, found her keys
Opened the door really wide
Shady took out the gun and said "Freeze
Go on Grandma, get inside!"

Mary didn't see him when she opened the door
By the time she did it was too late
He pushed her inside, she fell on the floor
The one with the gun too her seemed irate

The smaller one shut the door, they stood over her
One with the gun while the other showed a knife
The older one asked, "Which would you prefer?
Your money or your life?"

But Mary went into shock, she closed an eye
Shady didn't need this kind of distraction
He kicked Mary real hard between her leg and thigh
But Mary showed no reaction

"Grandma get up!" Little Guy demanded
Yet Mary lay still on the floor
They looked at each other, the look was candid
They both made a run for the door

But the door was locked and the lock was sound
They both tried to open it in despair
Suddenly Little Guy tapped Shady, Shady turned around
In time to see a pill bottle floating in the air

Part Three

Mary looked up from a dream like state
Half in- half out of her head
There in front of her stood her soul mate
Isaiah had come back from the dead

He was holding in his hands her bottle of pills
The two boys who attacked her were trying to run
What Isaiah did next gave Mary the chills
As Isaiah took out the pills, one by one

To Little Guy and Shady, all that they could see
Was pills floating through the air with no support
The door was jammed, they couldn't flee
Shady held out his gun as last resort

But the gun left his hand, it was taken away
Shady felt something big collide
A voice said, "Listen, you will do what I say
Open your mouths, and open them wide
!"

Little Guy tried to keep his mouth shut
He knew this was crazy, just too insane
Then he felt something hard hit him in the gut
And his mouth opened as he cried out in pain

Half the pills flew down into his throat
Panic took over, he couldn't breathe anymore
He ran into the hallway, tripped over a coat
Knocked himself unconscious as he hit the floor

Shady watched in horror, then he too tried to run
But something pushed him back against the wall
In midair, above him, someone pointed his gun
"You have some pills to take!" the voice said, "If I recall"

Shady opened his mouth, the pills flew inside
For the next half hour he fought for his life
But minutes later they both had died
And the ghost of Isaiah was alone with his wife

"Mary, sweet Mary", he said, "Your pills are gone
Come lay down with me just like before
When evening time gives its way to dawn
You will be with me again, forever more
"

Mary followed her husband into their bedroom
She was neither scared nor felt no fright
She ignored the two boys laying in her tomb
As the sun set on Halloween night...

Glad I read that one in the daylight. Good one. Did you know at one time Hallowleen was a religious holy day?

The origin of things is so interesting. I once wrote a piece on the 'Bonefire' which probably was the origin of what we now call 'Bonfire.'
